10:00AM FRI - Latest forecast models have come into agreement on snow accumulation for tonight across southern Wisconsin. We're doubling down on our forecast from yesterday while the NWS/TV people are still playing catch up. No changes for Wisconsin. 5-8" across the south with a sharp cutoff between Madison and Coloma. I did make a change across Iowa and Illinois (because I'm not really paying attention to that area on this one). My primary focus and attention has been on southern Wisconsin.

Here is the current NAM forecast. I don't think we could be anymore on target right now. The NWS will need to make some adjustments.

On Friday night, a winter storm will bring several inches of accumulating snow to southern Wisconsin. Latest forecast models have been trending snowier and we've increase expected snow totals as a result. See details below:

Storm Timing

The event will begin Friday late-afternoon and evening and last until mid-Saturday morning in the southeast.

Snow Accumulation Prediction

The snow will be moderate to heavy at times early Saturday morning with snowfall rates reaching 1"/hr. Current predictions are for 5-8" across far southern Wisconsin for Platteville, Janesville, and Milwaukee area. To the north of that a sharp cutoff in snow totals will occur so I drew in a 2-5" zone from La Crosse, Wisconsin Dells, and Beaver Dam, and Sheboygan. 1-2" for Sparta, Green Lake, and Manitowoc.

Lake enhancement along lake Michigan is expected during the event boosting totals in southeast Wisconsin for places like Sheboygan and Manitowoc.

Lake effect will continue in the typical places across Michigan (upper and lower) into Sunday. Given the narrow gradient in snow accumulations in Wisconsin it won't take much change in the storm track to cause issues. Forecast confidence remains lower than average for this forecast hour!

Gusty Winds

While not as strong as previously forecast; gusty winds will develop Saturday as an arctic air mass arrives. Wind gusts between 20-30 MPH will be possible across southern Wisconsin.

20-30MPH gusts developing Saturday across southern Wisconsin. Strongest gusts along the lakeshore.
