OCT 11, 2019 | Thunderstorms and Rain for Friday

LAST UPDATE : OCT 12, 2019

THURSDAY PM / FRI AM - A major storm system will move through Wisconsin/Great Lakes region starting late this week. Rain showers will overspread Wisconsin Thursday afternoon moving northeast. Embedded thunderstorms are possible across the eastern half of Wisconsin. Precipitation will remain scattered until the cold front passes through Friday night. It will be a sharp cold front.

Cold front will swing through from west to east during the daytime on Friday.

The thunderstorm threat appears limited and very limited in severity which is good news. Despite an impressive low pressure system, the timing is not right. Plenty of clouds. Vertically stacked system. I targeted Chicago, Milwaukee, and southwest Michigan because if things were to perk up, with a little extra instability we might get strong wind gusts? I am not concerned about the t-storm threat.

NAM simulated radar for Friday night as rain moves toward the northeast.

Regarding rainfall amounts, I think 0.5-1.0" is a great range. It depends on which model you look at on the location as the NAM is furthest west. I used a blend of the NAM and GFS (further east and lower). A few spots could exceed 1.0".

GFS predicted rainfall amounts. The NAM is further west.
