Facebook forecast post

A major storm system will occlude over Wisconsin/Great Lakes region starting late this week lasting through the weekend. This system will bring FEET of snow to portions of the Dakota's. Snow showers with minor accumulations are possible in northern Wisconsin this weekend as the storm wraps around.

It's going to feel like winter this weekend.

SATURDAY / SUNDAY - Snow showers - perhaps mixed with rain - will spread in from the west across northwest Wisconsin during the day on Saturday as the system wraps around. Models show accumulation potential of 1-3" across portions of northern Wisconsin; mainly northwest Wisconsin between Phillips and Duluth. This is driven by wrap around precipitation with an occluded 500 mb low basically stationary over the region. (See attached outlook maps).

GFS snowfall prediction; one of the highest estimates for Saturday.

Now getting snow to fall from the sky is one thing. Will it accumulate? That is another question.

I think it will be MAINLY grassy/elevated surfaces but plan for complete accumulation if you're located roughly Phillps to Hayward. OVERALL, it terms of impact it should be low. A minor accumulation event. Will need to watch short range models as we get closer for possibility of locally higher amounts.

Away from northwest Wisconsin; I don't expect anything more than flurries. Maybe some oh-ah moments across central Wisconsin. No impact.

NOTE - If you're looking at North Dakota, 18"+ will fall for many. I didn't have time to zone it all in.

WINDY AT TIMES - It won't be a constant gale force wind, but it will be windy at times and it will be harsh. The strongest wind gusts across northwest Wisconsin Friday night and Saturday, gusting up to 30-45 MPH. As we moved from Saturday into Sunday wind gusts will increase across the rest of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes Region but by this time the storm has completely wrapped up and weakening, thus lower gusts in the 20-35 MPH range. Still harsh.

Saturday morning estimated wind gusts in the 30-45 MPH range over northwest Wisconsin
